Illustrating Polis

Over the last week, I’ve mostly been concerned with producing a new state plan of the area of EF1 at Polis. This area contains a series of two superimposed buildings which both date to Late Antiquity. The buildings aren’t very interesting and are largely incomplete, but the assemblages of pottery that they produced provide a snapshot (or even a horizon) datable to before the end of the 7th century on the basis of a burial with a databable sealing cut into the abandoned structure.

The goal of our work this summer is mostly to produce a careful enough documentation of this area to support our various chronological arguments (and to fulfill our responsibilities to publish the site). As part of that, I’ve been updating the state plan and working to figure out how to use it to produce nice looking phase plans. So far here’s the updated state plan:

It’s not perfect and will reward a good bit of tweaking but I think the concept works.
