There’s a very specific kind of stress associated with early semester guidelines. It’s the kind of stress that is half irrational and half rooted in the awareness that the semester is always just as long as my to-do list. Fortunately, the weather is chilly, the fire is warm, and my comfy chair is inviting.
Better still, there are some good football games this weekend (or at least games that have the potential to be entertaining!). There is some decent boxing with the first Top Rank card of the new year. There’s also a stereo full of good music to keep me distracted and two dogs who tell me that they still enjoy walks even when I’m busy.
Of course, there’s always a short list of quick hits and varia:
- Pasts Imperfect.
- More Pseudoarchaeology.
- Guidelines on Broadening the Definition of Historical Scholarship (2023).
- City of Caesar, City of God: Constantinople and Jerusalem in Late Antiquity
- The Intractable Image.
- Does Your Local Museum or University Still Have Native American Remains?
- From Pretoria to Peoria.
- The Scent of Time.
- 5 Minutes That Will Make You Love Sun Ra.
- Pathos InPol Remix MkII integrated amplifier.
- What I am reading: Donald Worster, Rivers of Empire: Water, Aridity, and the Growth of the American West. 1985.
- What I’m listening to: I’m honestly not sure!
